Voltage Optimisation Cuts Costs and Carbon across the Printing & Packaging Industry

  • Voltage Optimisation (VO) has been used extensively in the print and packaging industry for many years to reduce energy costs on-site. Because of high energy consumption requirements and rising energy costs, VO is quickly becoming one of the most popular energy savings technologies, with many print and packaging companies approaching Powerdown220 to reduce energy costs and carbon emissions.
  • Whilst there is a difference in savings across all electrical equipment in print and packaging based on its voltage dependency, VO tends to make consistently high savings on equipment such as motors found in all types of air compressors, extraction and chopper fans, ink mixing and vacuum pumps, corrugating, conversion and printing machinery as well as material handling conveyors.

  • We partnered with Domino Printing, a developer of industrial and commercial inkjet printing, thermal transfer printing, print and apply machines, digital printing presses, and laser printing products.

  • By installing a voltage optimiser, Domino not only boosted their bottom line but also reduced their annual carbon emissions by a remarkable 41 tonnes.

  • That’s equivalent to planting 1,271 trees.

  • Alexir, a leading printed folding carton manufacturer, faced a huge increase in their kWh rate from their energy supplier, with their annual costs increasing owing to the energy crisis.   • Glossop Cartons & Print is one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of carton board packaging products. They are committed to operating responsibly and sustainably to help protect the environment.

  • They committed further to the environment by optimising their voltage on-site, and as a result reduced their energy consumption by 12.27% and reduced their annual carbon emissions by 48,888 KG.

Harrison Packaging Reduces Carbon Emissions

An Eco-Friendly Company

  • As a packaging supplier to many of the UK’s leading and most recognisable brands, Harrison Packaging wanted to reduce their carbon footprint in line with the government’s 2030 net zero plan. The packaging supplier is currently recognised as one of the UK’s most eco-friendly packaging companies and therefore wanted to find innovative ways to further reduce their carbon emissions.

  • They have recently undertaken several projects to help towards achieving their sustainability targets. They have installed LED lighting across their whole site. They plant 3 trees for each tree harvested for production, which contributes to the growth of European forests, which is equivalent to the size of Switzerland each year. Amongst other energy savings projects, they decided to invest in Voltage Optimisation with Powerdown220 to further reduce their emissions and energy costs.

A Reduction in Costs and Carbon with Voltage Optimisation

  • Coupled with onsite efforts, the implementation of voltage optimisation reduced their carbon emissions from electricity usage by over six percent per year, saving over 25 tonnes of Co2 annually. In doing so, this also helped Harrison Packaging make an energy saving of over £35,000 a year from reduced consumption, with the project taking just 17 months to pay off and ensuring a return on investment (ROI) of 70 percent.

  • The packaging supplier will continue to make carbon and financial savings for decades to come, as the voltage optimiser is under warranty until 2038 and has an expected lifespan of over 40 years.
