Voltage Optimisation Cuts Costs and Carbon in the Printing and Packaging Industry

Voltage Optimisation Cuts Costs and Carbon across the Printing & Packaging Industry

Voltage Optimisation (VO) has been used extensively in the print and packaging industry for many years to reduce energy costs on-site. Because of high energy consumption requirements and rising energy costs, VO is quickly becoming one of the most popular energy savings technologies, with many print and packaging companies approaching Powerdown220 to reduce energy costs and carbon emissions.

Whilst there is a difference in savings across all electrical equipment in print and packaging based on its voltage dependency, VO tends to make consistently high savings on equipment such as motors found in all types of air compressors, extraction and chopper fans, ink mixing and vacuum pumps, corrugating, conversion and printing machinery as well as material handling conveyors.

Whilst VO does not make a saving on LED lighting for example, it does help to protect the equipment and make it last longer, with an increase in the equipment lifespan of up to 46%, as stated by (UK wiring regs BS7671).

Calculating savings for VO is a fairly straightforward process, our technical team completes a full on-site technical survey, to confirm the exact savings made at any particular site.

Once we complete a technical survey we can offer a full savings guarantee, meaning if we don’t deliver the savings promised, we will remove the equipment and offer a full refund.

Energy Saving Specialists Help Reduces Energy Costs by £68K at Domino Printing UK

We partnered with Domino Printing, a developer of industrial and commercial inkjet printing, thermal transfer printing, print and apply machines, digital printing presses, and laser printing products.

By installing a voltage optimiser, Domino not only boosted their bottom line but also reduced their annual carbon emissions by a remarkable 41 tonnes.

  • That’s equivalent to planting 1,271 trees.

  • Elsewhere, the company also made annual savings worth £68K and saw a return of investment within 12.7 months.

Alexir Cuts Costs With Voltage Optimisation

Guaranteed Energy Savings Against Rising Energy Prices

  • Alexir, a leading printed folding carton manufacturer, faced a huge increase in their kWh rate from their energy supplier, with their annual costs increasing owing to the energy crisis. They turned to voltage optimisation to protect their business from spiralling energy cost rises and benefit from its fast payback and stable long-term results.

  • Following a full technical survey, we guaranteed that the Voltage Optimiser would deliver a minimum saving of 10.44%, which was further underpinned by the Powerdown220 Savings Guarantee. With these figures in mind, they were able to budget and plan, helping to protect against their increase in energy costs.

A Stable Power Supply and a 97-tonne Reduction in Carbon

  • In addition, Alexir is also benefiting from a more stable power supply on-site, with their equipment only drawing the energy that it needs to run at its optimal level, rather than having to work harder due to excess energy from the grid.

  • As a result, the voltage optimiser will help increase the lifespan of the equipment and save on future expenditures by reducing ongoing maintenance and replacement costs across the site. The voltage optimiser has also reduced Alexir’s carbon footprint and saved over 97 tonnes of harmful carbon emissions a year.

  • Annual Spend: £301,391
  • Annual Savings: £35,079
  • Project Cost: £64,945
  • Payback: 22.2 Months
  • Percentage Savings: 10.44%

Harrison Packaging Reduces Carbon Emissions With Voltage Reduction

An Eco-Friendly Company

As a packaging supplier to many of the UK’s leading and most recognisable brands, Harrison Packaging wanted to reduce their carbon footprint in line with the government’s 2030 net zero plan. The packaging supplier is currently recognised as one of the UK’s most eco-friendly packaging companies and therefore wanted to find innovative ways to further reduce their carbon emissions.

They have recently undertaken several projects to help towards achieving their sustainability targets. They have installed LED lighting across their whole site. They plant 3 trees for each tree harvested for production, which contributes to the growth of European forests, which is equivalent to the size of Switzerland each year. Amongst other energy savings projects, they decided to invest in Voltage Optimisation with Powerdown220 to further reduce their emissions and energy costs.

A Reduction in Costs and Carbon with Voltage Optimisation

Coupled with onsite efforts, the implementation of voltage optimisation reduced their carbon emissions from electricity usage by over six percent per year, saving over 25 tonnes of Co2 annually. In doing so, this also helped Harrison Packaging make an energy saving of over £35,000 a year from reduced consumption, with the project taking just 17 months to pay off and ensuring a return on investment (ROI) of 70 percent.

The packaging supplier will continue to make carbon and financial savings for decades to come, as the voltage optimiser is under warranty until 2038 and has an expected lifespan of over 40 years. Their energy savings are also covered by our savings guarantee meaning if our savings our lower than expected they can receive 100% of their money back.

“If any company who uses a large amount of electricity and wants to reduce their costs and support the environment, I would recommend a Voltage Optimiser with Powerdown220.”
